How to Participate: Own a Tesla Powerwall, then enroll via the Tesla App > Virtual Power Plant Tesla Powerwall owners can enroll their batteries in virtual power plant programs to support the electrical grid and earn compensation. Active programs include California's DSGS VPP (up to $350/year per Powerwall), ELRP ($2/kWh), and SMUD (enrollment incentive of $5,400). In 2024, Tesla paid $9.9 million to Powerwall owners through VPP programs.
